Health and Animal Services

We can fund our health department and prioritize animal services.

A healthy community means better quality of life.  Citizens need access to quality healthcare, including mental health services.

Pet safety and animal services are also a part of a healthy community.

Our citizens are not animal control officers. Sometimes they encounter a lost or injured animal and they need to know that our animal services staff can quickly and effectively assist them.

Priorities:

  • Examine changing needs and  best practices in animal services and implement them with a budget that support them adequately

  • Increase partnerships with animal rescues & volunteers to maximize resources & improve the lives of pets in Independence

  • Fund our Health Department to promote public health safety and awareness

  • Create a Mental Health crisis center to get immediate help to those who need it and relieve our police from responding when mental/medical health care providers can be more effective
